Both Myles Turner and the Indiana Pacers have opened up potential contract extension talks, sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic. Their conversations are believed to be at an early stage yet.

The darling of all trade murmurs from the past few years, Turner has been a consistent component of chatter and speculations around the league. But with Indiana suddenly soaring this season and could nail a competitive postseason finish, this paves the way for both sides to hammer an extended partnership.

His case for an extension with the Pacers can only be fortified also by his best season so far, as he is averaging career highs in points (16.7), boards (7.8), field goal shooting (54.1 percent), and three-point efficiency (41.7 percent) this 2022-23 campaign.

Turner is playing the final year of his rookie scale extension and is set to compile an $18MM in salary. Should he not be able to ink an extension, he is slated to enter unrestricted free agency next summer.

Though an extension is now likely, the Pacers are still expected to explore other options with Turner being an expiring asset. As noted by Charania, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Toronto Raptors are keeping in touch with the franchise about the center in recent months.
