The Golden State Warriors are targeting December 28 as the earliest date Klay Thompson could make his season debut with the franchise.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Warriors want to see Thompson work on his physical condition a little bit more. Therefore, they will most likely not give him playing time on December 20 and December 23 home games. The same goes for the road game vs the Phoenix Suns on Christmas Day.

“The Warriors do not plan for Klay Thompson to debut on either Dec. 20 or Dec. 23 home games, sources tell me and Anthony Slater.

Thompson won’t come back on Christmas. So earliest possible return would be Dec. 28 (vs the Nuggets) — with Thompson ramping up conditioning over next couple weeks,” Charania reports.

Klay Thompson hasn’t played since Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals. He has been out for more than 900 days, due to serious injuries. Yet, he now has his sights set on helping Golden State return to the top. For their part, the Warriors are on top of the West at the moment, tied with the Suns, with a league-best 23-5 record.
