Golden State Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. recently spoke to Mark Jones and Doris Burke at NBA 2K25 Summer League about Klay Thompson signing with the Dallas Mavericks.
(via ESPN):
Jones: “Klay Thompson leaves a cavernous void in so many ways: productivity, culturally. But as you guys move forward now, what are some of the important variables in this reset for you?”
Dunleavy: “I think it’s keeping some of the continuity in a lot of things we’ve done over the years. A lot of that’s not going to change. Obviously at times, the faces do, and in this case, a rather large one. But we’re excited about our young group that we have, couple guys out here tonight that we think can fill in and some guys we’ve added. That’s sort of how things evolve with organizations, with teams, and as I said the other day, ‘Nothing lasts forever.’ Here we are pivoting into something different, and I think it’s gonna be good. We’re excited about the things we’ve done and many ways can have a better team, but obviously goes without saying, gonna really miss Klay Thompson and just his presence and obviously his shooting, but everything he’s meant to this franchise. So, it’ll be different. I think once camp starts and we get going practice, especially for Draymond [Green] and Steph [Curry] and Steve [Kerr], it’ll be a bit of a shock. But, Klay’s in a great spot and we’ll move forward. I think everything’s gonna be alright.”
