The 2014 edition of Torneo Città di Roma, this season’s first stop of the EUROLEAGUE BASKETBALL ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT, was won by the host team.

Stellazzurra Basketball Academy Rome became the first team to book a spot the competition’s finals at the 2015 Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four in Madrid by winning the Rome qualifying tournament with a 65-50 victory over Unicaja Malaga.

Stellazzurra reached the finals for the first time thanks to a tremendous defensive showing, forcing 28 Malaga turnovers and holding Unicaja to just 31 percent shooting from the field. Andrea La Torre was named tournament MVP after posting 9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals in the final. Iba Thiam led Rome with 13 points while Lorenzo Bucarelli added 12 and Todor Radonjic scored 10.

In the other Day 3 games, Spars Sarajevo defeated Brose Baskets Bamberg 48-78 behind double doubles from Edin Atic and Fahrudin Manjgafic to place third, Cedevita Zagreb beat Armani Junior Milan 70-48 in the fifth-place game as Lovro Mazalin scored 32 and Dragan Bender led Maccabi Teddy Tel Aviv over Virtus Bologna 101-76 in the seventh-place game with 43 points, 21 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals.

Joining La Torre on the all-tournament team were Carlos Corts of Unicaja, Sarajevo’s Atic, Bamberg’s Leon Krtzer and Maccabi’s Bender.
