The Charlotte Hornets have announced new acquisition Gordon Hayward has suffered an avulsion fracture of the fifth finger on his right hand.

Hayward, known to be quite injury prone, joined the Hornets via a trade from the Boston Celtics during the offseason and, given the nature of the injury, could be out for a significant period as an avulsion could take up to eight weeks to heal.

The team, though, lists the player as day-to-day.

“The Charlotte Hornets announced today that forward Gordon Hayward sustained an avulsion fracture of his fifth metacarpal on his right hand during the team’s preseason game against the Toronto Raptors on Dec. 14, the official announcement reads. “Hayward will miss Thursday’s preseason game at Orlando and will be listed as day-to-day moving forward.”
