Washington Wizards rookie Deni Avdija has impressed enough so far to the point where he could be a starter on opening night.

Avdija “has a good chance to be” the starting small forward heading into the season, according to head coach Scott Brooks.

Brooks also noted that it’s still an open competition for the starting spot between Avdija, Troy Brown Jr. and Isaac Bonga.

Starting Avdija would give Brown more opportunity to play some point guard, a position he has played plenty of in his life, as he has a preference for the position.

In his first preseason game against the Brooklyn Nets, Avdija scored 15 points with four rebounds and two assists, shooting a perfect 6-of-6 from the field and 3-of-3 from three-point.
