The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly interested in retaining free agent Dwight Howard. There is mutual interest as Howard would also love to come back next season. However, there is one condition he has for the Lakers.

Howard, who won his first championship with the Lakers this past season, wants to get a guaranteed contract. The 34-year-old center was on a one-year, $2.5 million non-guaranteed contract last season.

“I would love to come back and play for the Lakers again. Hopefully, this year, they give me a contract; that’s the biggest thing. I don’t want to play for free anymore. This year, it was like, ‘OK, I’ll do whatever.’ But I think I’ve earned… a contract,” Howard told former NBA center Etan Thomas.

Last season Howard averaged 7.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks during 18.9 minutes per game.
