The Los Angeles Lakers asked the NBA to have the contract of Luol Deng removed from their books, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Lakers still owe Deng $5 million for the next two seasons.

The 2020 NBA champions requested “a career-ending injury application” to have Deng’s contract removed from their books.

Deng signed a four-year, $72M contract with Los Angeles back in 2016, but left the team in 2018.

Deng, who has now retired from professional basketball, joined the Minnesota Timberwolves and played 22 games during the 2018/19 season.
