Scariolo's future in Spanish NT to be decided in two weeks

Jose Luis Saez, the President of Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB), confirmed that the fate of the national team coach Sergio Scariolo will be decided within two weeks.

Italian coach took charge of Spanish national team in 2009 and immediately made history by leading the team to its first European gold in EuroBasket 2009 in Poland.

Scariolo added another EuroBasket title in 2011. Spain became the first team since 2001 to win two EuroBasket gold medals in a row.

The 51-year-old tactician also met the expectations in 2012 London Olympics by reaching the final. Though Spain suffered two losses in group stage (against Russia and Brazil).

It wasn't all that great during Scariolo's reign. Spain, despite being labelled as one of the favourites to win it all, lost to Serbian in quarter-finals of FIBA World Championship 2010.

There were talks already before London Olympics that this might be the last tournament for Scariolo as a head coach of Spanish national team.

According to Saez, the fact Scariolo is currently working with a club (EA7 Milano) will also be considered when making a decision regarding Scariolo's future.

It is still uncertain what team Spain will assemble for the EuroBasket 2013 since many stars are rumoured to be looking to take a summer off.

Spain were drawn in Group C with the hosts Slovenia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Georgia and Poland.
