Mike Brown’s current contract technically spans two more years, but the 2025/26 season includes a mutual option, requiring both him and the Kings to agree to continue.

Given that the 2024/25 season marks his final guaranteed year, both parties may feel inclined to pursue a new agreement sooner rather than later.

Reports suggest that Brown is likely to aim for a contract aligned with the recent market trends for head coaches, particularly after notable figures like Steve Kerr, Gregg Popovich, and Monty Williams secured lucrative deals in the past year.

“Look at a two-year horizon here, which is when Coach Brown and his staff came in, and (there are) a lot of positives,” general manager Monte McNair said on Wednesday.

“We’re certainly disappointed this year, and Mike and I will sit down and try to figure out how we get back to where we want to get to. And, yeah, we’ll have all those conversations here starting soon.”
