Hong Kong SAR, April 25, 2024Korean teams Busan KCC Egis and Suwon KT Sonicboom will compete to be the champions of East Asia in 2024-25, after qualifying for the East Asia Super League.

KCC and KT qualified after winning their respective Korean Basketball League 2023-24 season semifinals. The KBL’s 2023-24 champion and runner-up both qualify for EASL in 2024-25.

KCC overcame Wonju DB Promy in the KBL semifinals, winning 3-1 in the best-of-five series. KT beat Changwon LG Sakers 3-2 in the other semifinal.

KCC and KT will now face off in the KBL’s best-of-seven finals taking place April 27 to May 9.

EASL Chief Executive Officer Henry Kerins and Chief Commercial Officer Mark Fischer attended the KBL Finals Media Day in Seoul today to congratulate the two teams on their qualification.

Henry Kerins said, “The strength of the Korean Basketball League was shown when two Korean teams made it to the EASL Final Four 2024 in March. We have no doubt that Busan KCC Egis and Suwon KT Sonicboom will once again show that KBL teams are elite clubs in the Asia region, will compete for the championship in the EASL 2024-25 Season.”

The KBL 2023-24 champion will be placed into Group B in the EASL 2024-25 Season Group Stage. The KBL 2023-24 runner-up will be placed into Group A.

Eight teams in total will qualify for the EASL 2024-25 Season: two each from the B.LEAGUE (Japan), the KBL, the P. LEAGUE+ (Chinese Taipei) and the PBA (Philippines).

The qualifying teams will be decided in the final stages of the four domestic leagues, taking place in April, May and June.
