Even though the WNBA’s annual financial losses, roughly $10 million annually, are covered by the NBA, the Las Vegas Aces player A’ja Wilson pointed out that black women have been a driving force behind the WNBA, stating that the league was essentially built on their contributions.

Sports analyst Jason Whitlock took to X to share his thoughts on the issue: “Clueless. Women’s sports built on the back of Richard Nixon and Title IX. The WNBA built on the back of NBA charity. It’s the Welfare National Basketball Association and she’s running around ungrateful and acting like she built something. Delusional.”
