Sweden will be without Detroit Pistons’ Jonas Jerebko for this summer’s Eurobasket Qualifiers as he as chosen to concentrate on the next NBA season instead.

The national team’s cause is not helped with the news that Charlotte Bobcats forward Jeffery Taylor is also unlikely to feature due to an Achilles injury that he suffered against Jerebko’s Pistons just before Christmas.

Sweden’s head coach Vedran Bosnic said: “I’ve talked briefly with Jonas. His response regarding national game was no. He decided after the European Championship last year to focus on the NBA and camps there during the summer.”

Jerebko averaged 16.0 points and 6.8 rebounds a game for Sweden at last summer’s Eurobasket, with Taylor averaging 21.2 points, so losing their two main scoring threats will pose a problem for coach Bosnic as the team might struggle, offensively.

Bosnic’s side will open their Eurobasket Qualifiers with a home tie against Latvia on August 10 before facing Slovak Republic and Romania in home and away games as Sweden look for back-to-back Eurobasket appearances.
