Germany is getting ready for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, and their recent victory of 87-68 in a friendly game against Sweden is a testament to their preparation. Before the match, the German basketball federation honored Robin Benzing for his choice to retire from national team responsibilities.
“The national team is in good hands, the boys are great. I always wanted to lead by example. The national team is a family for me, they are all my children. I’ll keep looking out for it,” Benzing said about Germany after representing his country in 167 international matches.
“If you play in the national team for 14 years and aren’t there every summer, you deserve a big thank you. It wouldn’t have happened without you,” he then added by thanking his wife Katharina.
