Kevin Durant laid it out why he really left the Oklahoma City Thunder on the All the Smoke podcast. It turns out the real reason was KD got tired of playing with a lot of athletes and not skilled players.

According to Durant, he was thinking about leaving the Thunder even before the start of the season. Because he ‘was tired of having to be the only guy that can make 3s, make jump shots and consistently make them.’

“In OKC I played with a lot of athletes, I didn’t play with a lot of skilled guys, not like shooters/ball handlers. … I was like, ‘I need a change.’ And this was before the season even started. … I was tired of having to be the only guy that can make 3s, make jump shots and consistently make them.”
