No player came into the 2019/20 EuroLeague with bigger expectations on his shoulders.
At nearly the halfway point of the regular season, it’s clear that Nikola Mirotic of Barcelona, Euroleague Basketball’s choice as MVP of December, is not only meeting expectations – he’s exceeding them.
Mirotic was the driving force as Barca went 5-0 this month to join a three-way tie for first place.
Mirotic was largely unstoppable in December, leading Barca in rebounds and performance index rating in four of those victories, and in scoring for three of them.
Mirotic put up 19.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and a PIR of 25.4 per game over the course of a perfect December that Barcelona finished with a 13-3 record and tied for first with Efes and Madrid.
He ended the month ranked fifth in per-game scoring for the season, with 18.9 points on average; third in rebounds (7.2); and second in PIR (21.7).
