NBA star Trae Young revealed that one of his first major purchases after entering the league was a gold Rolex, which he bought before even securing a place to live in Atlanta.
Young recalled being particularly interested in luxury watches and cars when he first signed his NBA contract, although he was initially unsure which purchase he would make first.
“Man, I didn’t know. I was big into watches and cars, so I knew it was going to be one or the other. So I didn’t know what it was going to be.”
The former Atlanta Hawks guard explained that he may have purchased a car before getting the watch, although the two purchases happened around the same time.
“I don’t know if I ended up buying my… I definitely probably got the car first and then the watch. It probably was simultaneously. I had a gold Rolex.”
Young said the Rolex was the first expensive watch he purchased, and he made the decision before settling into his new life in Atlanta.
“That was my first watch purchase, and that was before I even moved into my apartment in Atlanta…”
The host then asked whether Young had purchased the watch immediately after signing his NBA contract and whether he had visited a store or jewelry dealer.
“That was right after you got signed, you bought that gold Rolex. You went straight to the store and bought it, or jewelry?”
Young clarified that he went directly to a store after participating in the NBA Summer League, while he was still staying in a hotel and searching for permanent accommodation.
“No, I went straight to the store, but it was more like after summer league, and I was still in the hotel. I hadn’t figured out where I was staying yet. I remember having that.”
