The head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, Alvin Gentry, talked about the absence of Zion Williamson, due to injury.

Here is what coach Gentry told reporters prior to the match against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday (02/11):

How is the team coping without Zion Williamson?

“We understand injuries are part of the game. I feel so bad for him because he was looking forward to playing in his first NBA game and being involved and being with the team.

He’s a real team guy and for him not being able to play and be with the team is tough for him. Obviously, he’s a good player and we could certainly use him.”

Can Zion still win rookie of the year even with missing all of this time?

“I don’t think it’s even a thought if you want to know the truth. If you asked him, he’d say the exact same thing. What we want to do is get him back healthy.

Get him back on our team and have him improve game by game like any rookie would. I don’t think the thought of being rookie of the year has been given any kind of consideration whatsoever.”

Williamson is expected to return to action in December.
