Dwight Powell brings NBA experience to Fenerbahce

Veteran center Dwight Powell could provide Fenerbahce Istanbul with additional experience and efficiency in the paint as the Turkish club moves closer to signing the former Dallas Mavericks big man.

According to BasketNews, Powell is expected to join Fenerbahce on a one-year deal after becoming a free agent following October’s NBA roster cuts.

The 35-year-old spent the majority of his professional career with Dallas, where he developed into an effective pick-and-roll player capable of setting screens, finishing lobs, and creating opportunities for teammates.

Powell’s efficiency around the basket was one of his biggest strengths throughout his NBA career.

He ranks fourth in Mavericks franchise history with a 60.6% career field goal percentage and regularly converted more than 70% of his attempts during the 2018-2020 period.

The Canadian center also demonstrated impressive durability during the 2021-22 campaign, appearing in all 100 of Dallas’ regular-season and playoff games.

Beyond his offensive contributions, Powell is known for his physical approach, willingness to battle for rebounds, and ability to defend different positions.

His experience in team-oriented systems could help him adapt to European basketball, where Fenerbahce would benefit from his screening, interior finishing, and defensive versatility.

Powell also participated in Dallas’ run to the 2024 NBA Finals, giving him experience competing in high-pressure postseason situations.
