Fenerbahce will enter the new season with a significantly changed roster, and Shane Larkin believes winning the EuroLeague Basketball SuperCup could help the team build confidence immediately.

Nine new players arrived during the offseason, although several important members of the previous roster remain.

For Larkin, the tournament in Abu Dhabi represents an opportunity for the new group to make progress while competing for its first trophy together.

“It would help us a lot,” he said. “It would give us that boost of confidence that you need going into a season with a bunch of new players. We have a lot of new transfers this year on this team. Obviously, the core guys are still here with [Nicolo] Melli and with Wade [Baldwin]. Talen [Horton-Tucker] is still here, so that experience remains.

“But bringing in 8-9 new guys and everybody trying to learn how to play together within the system under Saras, understanding your roles, and what you can do best to help the team is important. So if we can go out here against other EuroLeague clubs that have a lot of experience and are great teams as well, to walk away with a trophy would be big for us.”

Larkin did not appear during Fenerbahce’s preseason, but his extensive EuroLeague and Final Four experience gives the club another proven option as it prepares for the new campaign.
