Shane Larkin is starting a new chapter in Istanbul after ending his eight-year run with Anadolu Efes and moving to cross-town rival Fenerbahce.
The veteran guard won consecutive EuroLeague championships with Efes in 2021 and 2022, but when the time came to consider his next destination, Fenerbahce emerged as his preferred choice.
“I have always had a lot of respect for Fener, being in Turkiye for eight years, playing against them, seeing the fan base and how they have developed the roster and how the organization has been ran over the last few years,” Larkin told Euroleague.net during Fenerbahce’s media availability in Abu Dhabi.
“When it was time to make a change from my other team, there were a few options out there, and then after evaluating all the options, I felt like Fener was the best option for me. And that’s what it was all about.
“I think Coach Saras [Jasikevicius] is a great coach. I think they have been doing a great job the last few years of maintaining a certain level of Final Fours and having an opportunity to win championships, and to be a part of that at this stage of my career is what it’s all about, trying to be in the Final Four and trying to win championships, and I felt like this was a great opportunity for that.”
Larkin’s first official assignment with his new club will come against Olympiacos in the EuroLeague Basketball SuperCup semifinal in Abu Dhabi.
