The Golden State Warriors have reunited with center Charles Bassey, agreeing to a one-year contract after Quinten Post departed for the Memphis Grizzlies on a three-year offer sheet that Golden State declined to match. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the agreement on Thursday, with Bassey returning to the Bay Area for his sixth NBA season.

The move addresses an immediate need in Golden State’s frontcourt after Post, who averaged 7.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in 67 games during the 2025-26 season, left in free agency. Rather than searching externally for a replacement, the Warriors opted to bring back a player who already showed he could fit within Steve Kerr’s system during a brief stint late last season.

Although Bassey appeared in just five games for Golden State, he made a strong impression. The 25-year-old averaged 10.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 20.0 minutes per game while shooting 67.7% from the field. He also converted 84.6% of his free throws, providing efficient scoring almost exclusively around the basket while giving the Warriors another rim protector.

Bassey’s 2025-26 campaign was unusual, as he suited up for four different franchises. He played two games for the Memphis Grizzlies, one for the Philadelphia 76ers, five for the Boston Celtics and finished the season with Golden State. Across all 13 NBA appearances, he averaged 5.8 points and 4.4 rebounds while shooting 66.0% from the floor.

The former second-round pick has built a reputation as an efficient interior scorer throughout his NBA career. In 126 regular-season games with Philadelphia, San Antonio and last season’s four stops, Bassey owns career averages of 4.5 points and 4.3 rebounds in 11.2 minutes per game while shooting an impressive 63.5% from the field. He has also averaged 0.9 blocks per contest, reflecting his value as a rotational rim protector.

Golden State’s frontcourt remains anchored by Kristaps Porzingis, who averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 15 games last season before signing a two-year extension. Veteran Al Horford also returns after averaging 8.3 points while shooting 36.1% from three-point range across 45 appearances. Draymond Green is expected to remain with the club after declining his player option to help create offseason flexibility, while first-round pick Yaxel Lendeborg adds another young frontcourt option.

The Warriors entered the offseason hoping to reshape the roster around Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler with another marquee addition, but those ambitions have cooled as the team has instead prioritized continuity. Curry averaged 26.6 points while making 4.4 three-pointers per game in 2025-26, while Butler contributed 20.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists despite going out with an ACL injury.

After finishing 37-45 and missing the playoffs, Golden State has focused on reinforcing its supporting cast within first-apron salary restrictions. Re-signing Bassey provides the Warriors with an inexpensive, familiar option at center after losing Post, while preserving flexibility as they continue building around their veteran core ahead of the 2026-27 season.
