Fenerbahce officially announced the departure of Tarik Biberovic on Thursday, bringing an end to the forward’s eight-year stay with the Turkish powerhouse as he prepares to continue his career in the NBA.

In a farewell statement, the club praised Biberovic’s loyalty and contributions since arriving as a 17-year-old in 2018, calling him one of the team’s iconic figures and thanking him for helping deliver one EuroLeague title, four Turkish League championships, five Turkish Cups and one Presidential Cup.

“Tarık Biberovic will always be remembered not only for the trophies he won but also for the place he earned in the hearts of the Fenerbahce family,” the club said, adding that it believes he will “make us equally proud in his NBA career.”

The announcement follows reports that Biberovic has informed Fenerbahce of his decision to join the Dallas Mavericks. According to Marc Stein, Dallas is expected to sign the 25-year-old wing to a two-year, $6 million contract with a team option for the second season once the Mavericks complete a trade to acquire his NBA rights from the Memphis Grizzlies.

Stein also reported that Biberovic’s decision activated a $2 million buyout clause in his Fenerbahce contract. Under NBA collective bargaining rules, Dallas can contribute up to $900,000 toward that buyout, with Biberovic responsible for the remaining amount unless another arrangement is reached.

Biberovic leaves after establishing himself as one of Europe’s most efficient perimeter shooters. During the 2025-26 EuroLeague season, he averaged 11.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists across 41 games while shooting 46.1% from the field and an outstanding 41.9% from three-point range. His 95.2% free-throw accuracy further highlighted his shooting efficiency.

His production also extended to Turkey’s domestic league, where he averaged 12.3 points while converting 50.2% of his field-goal attempts and 48.9% from beyond the arc. Across eight professional seasons in Europe, Biberovic developed into one of the continent’s premier floor spacers, posting a career 42.3% three-point percentage.

The move comes during a busy summer of change for Fenerbahce following another deep EuroLeague run. The club finished fourth in the regular season with a 24-14 record before defeating Zalgiris 3-1 in the playoff quarterfinals to reach the Final Four. Fenerbahce’s season ended with a semifinal loss to Olympiacos.

Biberovic is one of several notable departures from the reigning Turkish champions. Veteran guard Nando De Colo has retired, while Khem Birch, Devon Hall, Jilson Bango, Brandon Boston Jr., Armando Bacot, Arturs Zagars, Bonzie Colson and Metecan Birsen have also left the club.

Fenerbahce has already begun reshaping its roster. The club recently signed former Baskonia guard Trent Forrest to a 2+1-year contract and officially announced a two-year deal with veteran forward Shavon Shields, who arrives after six successful seasons with Olimpia Milano. Shields averaged 12.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists in the 2025-26 EuroLeague campaign and earned EuroLeague All-Second Team honors in both 2020-21 and 2021-22.

The Turkish club is also reportedly closing in on former Anadolu Efes star Shane Larkin and Rytas Vilnius guard Ignas Sargiunas as it continues to rebuild a roster capable of competing for another EuroLeague title while Biberovic begins the next chapter of his career in Dallas.
