The Golden State Warriors remain interested in signing LeBron James, but they have not received any indication that they are leading the race for the veteran superstar, according to The Athletic.

League sources say the Warriors continue monitoring the situation while James and his agent, Rich Paul, evaluate offers from several interested teams.

ESPN’s Shams Charania has reported that James is expected to take his time before making a decision.

That timeline gives Golden State and other contenders an opportunity to strengthen their rosters through trades or additional free-agent signings in hopes of becoming a more attractive destination.

The Warriors have the draft assets and salary flexibility needed to pursue a significant trade if the right opportunity becomes available.

However, team sources indicate the front office is also comfortable entering next season with a roster largely unchanged if a major acquisition does not materialize.

“The Warriors, team sources said, very much believe they’re still in the mix for James but still have been given no indication they’re any type of front-runner.”

“There remain continued signs that the front office is content if they have to run it back with mostly the same roster.”
