Former Miami Heat forward Udonis Haslem revealed that Andre Iguodala played an important role in introducing him to stock market investing during the NBA bubble in 2020.
Haslem explained that while some players viewed their time inside the bubble as an unpleasant experience, he saw it as an opportunity to learn about subjects he had previously struggled to find time for.
“So Andre Iguodala, who I had a chance to play with and spend some time in the NBA bubble. When I took my time in the NBA bubble, a lot of guys thought that that was a time to just be away. And a lot of guys looked at it as negative time. I looked at it as time to focus on things that I always wanted to have the time to focus on.”
The three-time NBA champion said he developed a daily routine with Iguodala, who was his teammate in Miami at the time. The two would meet for breakfast and discuss the stock market.
“When I was in that bubble, I actually took the time and I met Andre Iguodala every morning and we sat down, ate breakfast, and we talked stocks.”
Haslem credited Iguodala with helping him understand investing, explaining that they spent time studying the market and following financial developments together.
“And he would teach me and we would go over and we were watching, you know, everything we could. And that’s actually when I took the to stocks and started to learn stocks where was in the bubble.”
When asked whether he remembered the first stock he purchased after those conversations, Haslem gave a brief answer.
“It was Nvidia.”
Nvidia has since become one of the most prominent companies in the technology sector, benefiting from growing demand for artificial intelligence chips and data center infrastructure.
