The Hawks announced Monday that third-year forward Jacob Toppin will miss the rest of the 2025/26 season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. The injury occurred during a November 29 G League game with the College Park Skyhawks.
Toppin, undrafted out of Kentucky in 2023, spent most of his first two seasons on a two-way deal with the Knicks before being waived in March. Atlanta signed him shortly afterward and brought him back on another two-way contract in July.
His NBA minutes have been limited – 31 total appearances and only 131 minutes played – including five brief outings for the Hawks this season.
While his NBA role has been small, Toppin has been a strong performer in the G League. In five games with College Park this year, he averaged 18 points and 10.4 rebounds, continuing the production he showed in the 2024/25 season.
With Toppin now out for the year, the Hawks may choose to waive him to open up a two-way spot. His brother, Pacers forward Obi Toppin, is also recovering from a long-term injury following October foot surgery.
