The Atlanta Hawks have officially waived two-way forward Jacob Toppin, NBA insider Michael Scotto reported on Monday. Toppin underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder and will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season, opening a two-way roster spot for the Hawks.
Toppin, 25, appeared in limited minutes for Atlanta this season, averaging 4.2 points and 0.7 rebounds in 4.2 minutes per game across five contests. His brief contributions followed a stint in the G League, where he averaged 18 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists over five games with the College Park Skyhawks.
The forward’s injury compounds Atlanta’s challenges as the team looks to maintain its 15-12 record and climb the Eastern Conference standings. Key rotation players for the Hawks include Trae Young, Kristaps Porzingis, and Jalen Johnson, all of whom have been carrying the team’s scoring and playmaking load.
In the G League this year, Toppin showcased his ability to produce as a frontline contributor, averaging a double-double while shooting 48 percent from the field and 36 percent from three-point range.
With Toppin waived, Atlanta gains flexibility to pursue another two-way player or give extended opportunities to younger roster members.
