Al Horford is out with sciatica

Golden State Warriors big man Al Horford is set to be sidelined for at least a week due to sciatica, according to Monte Poole of NBC Sports.

ESPN’s Anthony Slater backed up that report, adding that the team is describing the issue as “right sciatic nerve irritation”.

Slater also mentioned that head coach Steve Kerr indicated Horford will be out for a minimum of three games.

This season, Horford has been logging career-low production across several categories – minutes, scoring, rebounding, and assists – while also shooting his lowest three-point percentage in over a decade.

Much of that drop-off stems from the adjustment to his new role coming off the bench for the Warriors.

Sciatica is the same type of problem that caused LeBron James to miss the Lakers’ first 14 games of the season, though the current description of Horford’s condition suggests his situation isn’t as serious.

Golden State, now sitting at 9-9 after a three-game losing streak, has cooled off considerably since opening the year 4-1.

Horford’s absence adds another challenge to an already thin frontcourt, especially with Jonathan Kuminga dealing with knee tendinitis and Draymond Green sidelined by a foot sprain.
