The Sacramento Kings have made it clear to teams around the league that they’re willing to move on from their veteran core as the trade deadline approaches.
Reports indicate that GM Scott Perry has come to the conclusion that Sacramento needs to commit to a long-term rebuild rather than continue trying to push for a playoff berth with the current roster.
In any discussions, the team’s younger foundational pieces – Keegan Murray and Nique Clifford – are reportedly not being made available.
Instead, established veterans such as Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Domantas Sabonis are expected to be placed on the trade market.
The difficulty for Sacramento is that these veterans may not generate the type of significant offers the team hopes for.
LaVine’s market would likely improve if teams had clarity on whether he intends to decline his $48.9 million player option for next season.
Sabonis still has $94 million remaining over the following two years, and DeRozan’s contract runs for just one more season with only $10 million guaranteed, factors that may limit the return in potential deals.
