Tyler Herro addressed his contract status with the Miami Heat as extension negotiations remain unresolved ahead of the October 20 deadline. According to South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the guard said, “I expect to get something done,” while emphasizing that his focus remains on basketball and not the final numbers.
Herro made clear that he values his place in Miami but also wants what he called a “respectable number.” He added that he is not “pressed” on signing a maximum deal, explaining that his priority is long-term stability rather than top-end money.
The 25-year-old enters his sixth season with the franchise after undergoing offseason surgery on his left foot and ankle. He is not expected to be available for training camp but projected he could return as early as mid-November.
If no extension is reached, Herro will remain under contract until the summer of 2026, when he becomes an unrestricted free agent. According to the Sun-Sentinel’s Ira Winderman, Miami is unlikely to offer the maximum extension of three years and $149.8 million, instead favoring a deal below that number.
Herro is coming off his strongest campaign as a professional. He averaged 23.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists across 77 games last season, setting career highs in scoring and playmaking while earning his first All-Star selection.
The Heat have long prioritized Bam Adebayo as their franchise cornerstone, which complicates Herro’s negotiations. With Jimmy Butler now in Golden State, Miami is reshaping its roster, but Herro has remained central to the offense since being drafted in 2019.
Over six seasons, Herro has averaged 19.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. He has also logged 50 playoff appearances, contributing during the Heat’s 2020 run to the NBA Finals.
While Herro recovers, Miami is expected to rely on Terry Rozier, Davion Mitchell, and rookie Kasparas Jakucionis to handle backcourt duties. Newly acquired Norman Powell is also expected to play a key role in providing scoring support on the wing.
Herro stressed that whether or not an extension is signed before the deadline, his commitment to the team will not change. “I want to be here, as I’ve said,” he said. “At the end of the day, it’s about respect.”
