The Miami Heat have successfully acquired Norman Powell from the Los Angeles Clippers as part of a three-team trade that also includes the Utah Jazz.
In this deal, the Clippers will receive John Collins, while the Utah Jazz will be getting Kevin Love, Kyle Anderson, and a 2027 second-round draft pick from the Clippers.
Norman Powell is currently on a $20.5 million expiring contract, which is part of the five-year, $90 million agreement he originally signed with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Powell is expected to bring additional scoring and playmaking ability to the Heat’s backcourt.
Last season, he posted a career-best average of 21.8 points per game, earning him recognition as a potential All-Star. His offensive skills will add valuable depth and shot creation for Miami.
On the other side, John Collins will bolster the Clippers’ frontcourt depth. He is also on an expiring deal worth $26.6 million, stemming from a five-year, $125 million contract he signed with the Atlanta Hawks.
Over the previous season, Collins averaged 18.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game across 40 games, playing about 30.5 minutes per contest. His presence is expected to enhance the Clippers’ interior scoring and rebounding.
Additionally, the Clippers have been connected to potential moves involving Bradley Beal, should he reach a buyout agreement with the Phoenix Suns as anticipated.
They have also shown interest in veteran guard Chris Paul.
Meanwhile, Kevin Love is likely to become a buyout candidate with the Utah Jazz as the team continues to focus on rebuilding for the future.
