The Golden State Warriors have successfully acquired Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat and agreed on a new two-year, $121 million contract extension with him. As part of the deal, Butler has declined his player option for the 2025-26 season.

To secure Butler, the Warriors are parting ways with Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schroder, Kyle Anderson, Lindy Waters III, and a protected first-round draft pick. The selection carries top-10 protection in 2025 and 2026, becoming fully unprotected in 2027 if not conveyed.

In a series of connected moves, Schroder will be sent to the Utah Jazz, while PJ Tucker will move from the Jazz to the Heat. Additionally, Josh Richardson and Waters are heading to the Detroit Pistons.

Butler, who had requested a trade back in December, initially preferred joining the Phoenix Suns. However, after weeks of failed negotiations centered on moving Bradley Beal to Miami as part of the transaction, Phoenix could not reach a deal.

Golden State had also explored the possibility of reacquiring Kevin Durant but abandoned discussions when it became clear Durant had no interest in leaving Phoenix for a reunion with his former team.
