Chicago Bulls forward Caleb Wilson has set ambitious goals for his NBA career, revealing that he regularly watches Michael Jordan’s documentary “The Last Dance” and hopes to eventually earn a statue outside the team’s arena.
Wilson explained that his dedication to basketball has grown through his experiences as a player, including the time he spent at North Carolina.
He believes his work ethic and commitment give him the opportunity to become an important player for the Bulls.
“I learned so much about myself, just how important basketball was to me. I remember I used to sleep in the gym before the season and when I’m really dedicated towards something, I kind of tune everything else out. That’s why I’m so confident that I’ll be a good player here because I want to be a great Bull and I want I want a statue out there in all honesty. So every day I’m going to work towards it.”
The young forward also discussed how an injury that ended his college season early changed his perspective on basketball.
Wilson said the experience made him appreciate his opportunities more and recognize that a professional playing career does not last forever.
“My biggest takeaways from playing at North Carolina was to one just be grateful for every opportunity. If people watching this don’t know, my season was cut short from injury, and my outlook towards life and basketball in general has changed so much because of the injury. I’m grateful for the opportunity to play basketball every day. I know my time is limited, and I didn’t really have that approach towards basketball and life until that happened to me. I know that in basketball I have 15, 20 years left if I’m lucky to play and make myself legendary in this league. So every day I’m working towards that goal, and I just didn’t have that mindset and approach like I do now.”
Wilson believes the injury helped him develop a more serious approach to his career, motivating him to make the most of his time in the NBA.
He also revealed that he frequently revisits “The Last Dance,” the documentary covering Jordan and the Bulls’ championship years.
Wilson said he has long been interested in the franchise’s history and considers playing in Chicago an ideal opportunity to establish himself in the league.
“I watch The Last Dance probably once or twice a month. I’m really familiar with the Bulls and stuff like that. It’s kind of a dream come true to play here because I’ve always wanted to be legendary and have a great marketing city behind me. I’m just excited for the opportunity.”
