CJ McCollum expressed confidence about his upcoming season during the 2025 Wizards Media Day. “I think this will be my best year yet,” he said, via Chase Hughes.
The 34-year-old guard joins Washington following a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans that also involved Kelly Olynyk and a future second-round pick, sending Jordan Poole, Saddiq Bey, and the 40th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft to New Orleans.
McCollum’s 2024–25 season was interrupted by a bone bruise in his right foot, ending his campaign on March 31. Before the injury, he averaged 21.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 56 starts for New Orleans.
On January 3, he tied a career-high 50 points in a 132–120 win over the Wizards, demonstrating his scoring ability despite an injury-plagued season.
A veteran of 787 career games, McCollum has consistently been a reliable scorer and playmaker. He led the Pelicans in assists last season and has averaged 19.6 points per game over his career.
Joining Washington, McCollum will play alongside Khris Middleton, Corey Kispert, and recent draft additions including Tre Johnson and Will Riley.
