The New Orleans Pelicans have agreed to trade CJ McCollum, Kelly Olynyk, and a future second-round pick to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Jordan Poole, Saddiq Bey, and the 40th overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.

This move gives the Wizards significant financial flexibility moving forward. By acquiring McCollum, who is on a $30.67 million expiring contract, Washington is projected to have close to $100 million in cap space during the 2026 offseason.

McCollum, who will be 34 years old, averaged 21.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists over 56 games last season with New Orleans.

Jordan Poole heads to New Orleans with three years remaining on a four-year, $128 million deal originally signed with Golden State. After being traded to the Wizards in 2023, Poole averaged 20.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 68 games this past season.

His efficiency improved from his first year in Washington, finishing with a player efficiency rating of 16.5 and a true shooting percentage of .591, up from 12.0 and .529, respectively.

Saddiq Bey, also included in the deal, adds wing depth to the Pelicans, while the 40th pick gives them another opportunity to add young talent through the draft.

Kelly Olynyk is on a $13.4 million expiring contract and brings veteran frontcourt depth to Washington. He averaged 8.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists over 44 games last season, split between the Raptors and Pelicans.

This trade signals a continued rebuild for the Wizards while the Pelicans reshape their roster with a mix of youth and draft capital.
