Malik Beasley is set to seek a contract above the veteran minimum after a strong 2024–25 season, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. Sources say the 28-year-old could command that if no off-court issues interfere.
Beasley connected on 41.6% of his three-pointers last season while averaging 16.3 points per game for the Detroit Pistons. He appeared in all 82 regular-season games and contributed 14 points per contest in the playoffs against the New York Knicks.
Detroit’s contract situation may limit his return, as the Pistons only hold his non-Bird rights and can offer a maximum of $7.2 million. The team has also added Caris LeVert, Duncan Robinson, and Javonte Green, signaling a potential shift in priorities.
Other teams have expressed interest in Beasley, including the Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, and Cleveland Cavaliers. Minnesota could revisit a former stint with the sharpshooter, while the Knicks look for low-cost perimeter upgrades following their playoff matchup with Detroit.
Cleveland’s interest is tied to the absence of Max Strus, who is sidelined for three to four months after foot surgery. Beasley’s shooting would provide much-needed spacing for Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland.
Beasley previously played for the Timberwolves from 2020 to 2022, posting a career-best 19.6 points per game in 2020–21. His familiarity with the organization makes him a compelling option for Minnesota as it seeks depth in the backcourt.
Across nine NBA seasons, Beasley has suited up for six teams, including Denver, Utah, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, and Detroit. His recent clearance in a federal gambling investigation removes previous uncertainty around his free agency.
