Anadolu Efes has suffered a major setback, as center Vincent Poirier is expected to be out of action for a prolonged period.
The French big man sustained a knee injury while preparing with the national team during EuroBasket training camp, and medical evaluations have confirmed that he will need surgery.
The operation is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 26, in France, his home country.
According to the club’s official announcement, Poirier will be sidelined for at least four months as he undergoes recovery and rehabilitation. His exact return date will depend on his post-surgery progress, with the situation to be reassessed after the procedure.
Poirier, a key figure in Efes’ frontcourt rotation, was an important contributor during the 2024-25 EuroLeague campaign.
He averaged 9.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game in just over 21 minutes on the floor, showcasing his impact on both ends.
Efes expressed support for their player in the official statement:
“Our talented player, Vincent Poirier, will undergo surgery in France on Tuesday for the knee injury he sustained while playing for the French national team. The player is expected to be sidelined for at least four months, and his return to the field will be re-evaluated after the surgery.”
This injury leaves Anadolu Efes without one of their most reliable interior presences for a significant stretch of the season, forcing the team to adapt its rotation as they await his recovery.
