Brook Lopez is ready to bring his veteran presence and versatility to the Los Angeles Clippers, following his two-year, $18 million agreement this offseason. The deal, finalized with the team’s non-taxpayer midlevel exception, strengthens the Clippers’ frontcourt with size, defense, and floor spacing.
The 37-year-old center, who won a championship with Milwaukee in 2023, spoke to NBC Sports about his expectations and potential role alongside Ivica Zubac. “I think we complement each other extremely well,” Lopez said. “Obviously, we’ll be very big. I think we’d be great defensively, just dominating the paint, sealing the paint off.”
Lopez noted that Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue may experiment with two-big lineups, featuring both him and Zubac on the court simultaneously. “Offensively, we complement each other there as well,” Lopez added. “Spread the floor for him, give him all the room in the paint for them to go wild.”
The veteran is coming off another strong season with the Bucks, appearing in 80 games and averaging 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per contest. His 37.3% shooting from three-point range last year demonstrated his continued ability to stretch defenses while protecting the rim effectively.
“I’m capable of a lot of stuff,” Lopez said of his role. “Obviously, I’m comfortable spreading the floor. I’m comfortable being in the post. I love defending, I love being anchor on defense.”
Lopez also emphasized his willingness to adapt and contribute in any way necessary to help the Clippers succeed. “Bottom line, I just want to help the team win,” he said. “Whatever they need me to do, whatever they see fit for my role, I’m going to be working as hard as possible to be great at that.”
With the signing of Lopez, the Clippers are now hard capped at the first tax apron, limiting their flexibility for additional moves. However, his arrival provides a boost to a roster already built around Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and James Harden, adding defensive depth and playoff experience.
