As the NBA moves closer to concluding its investigation into allegations involving Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers, questions remain about whether the league has gathered enough evidence to justify any disciplinary action.

While the investigation remains ongoing, some around the league reportedly believe any punishment would require clear evidence of wrongdoing.

The Clippers have publicly denied the allegations and are said to be frustrated by efforts to prove their innocence in a case they maintain should not exist.

Questions have also emerged regarding how the NBA Players Association would react if the league punished the franchise over matters involving a player’s endorsement arrangements.

“The NBPA would and should lose its mind over that,” one source said.

Another source expressed confidence that commissioner Adam Silver would not impose discipline without sufficient proof.

“I respect Adam, and I don’t think he’s stupid,” the source said. “If Wachtell delivers the report that says, ‘Well, we don’t have it,’ I don’t think Adam is going to push it further.”
