Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis underwent a medical procedure to repair a detached retina suffered during the 2024–25 NBA season, according to a report by Shams Charania.
Charania posted on X that Davis, who endured several blows to the face throughout the year, is expected to recover fully in time for the Mavericks’ next training camp. The operation was performed after the season concluded.
Davis, 32, was traded to Dallas on February 2, in a blockbuster deal that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. The trade, which also involved Max Christie, Maxi Kleber, Markieff Morris, and draft picks, was considered one of the most impactful midseason moves in league history.
Following the trade, Davis made an immediate impact on the Mavericks, debuting with 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks in a win over the Houston Rockets. Despite sustaining a strained left adductor in that game, he returned later in March after an 18-game absence.
On April 2, Davis suffered an eye injury against the Atlanta Hawks but returned to finish the game and hit the game-winning shot.
Over nine regular-season games with the Mavericks, Davis averaged 20.0 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 2.2 blocks per game while shooting 46.1 percent from the field.
