The Warriors are reportedly exploring an ambitious offseason strategy centered around acquiring Anthony Davis before attempting to lure LeBron James to Golden State.
According to Kevin O’Connor, Golden State is considering a trade package built around Jimmy Butler’s expiring $57 million contract, along with future draft assets that include two first-round picks and four pick swaps, in an effort to land Davis.
The organization’s hope is that pairing Davis with Stephen Curry would make the Warriors an attractive destination for James, whose future remains uncertain after reports indicated the Lakers have yet to present him with a new contract offer this offseason.
Despite the speculation, Washington has reportedly made it clear that it intends to keep Davis. The All-Star big man will become eligible to sign a four-year, $275 million contract extension beginning August 6.
In addition to monitoring the Davis situation, the Warriors have also been linked to several other potential additions, including Anfernee Simons, Jock Landale, and Collin Sexton as they continue evaluating options to strengthen their roster.
