Anthony Davis’ long-term future with the Wizards remains under discussion after his agent, Rich Paul, met with team officials on Sunday to discuss a possible contract extension.
Davis is eligible to sign a four-year extension worth as much as $275 million later this offseason.
Following Washington’s recent four-year, $212 million agreement with Trae Young, the veteran big man is reportedly seeking clarity on the organization’s willingness to make a similar long-term commitment.
The 33-year-old has also been linked to trade speculation involving the Warriors, where a reunion with LeBron James has been widely discussed.
“Anthony Davis just saw Trae Young get a $200 million new contract with the Wizards,” Brian Windhorst said on ESPN’s Get Up.
“Yesterday, Rich Paul, who represents Draymond Green and LeBron and Anthony Davis met with the Wizards to discuss the future.”
Windhorst added that Washington could make Davis “very happy” with a new contract if it intends to keep him as part of its plans, but suggested Golden State could become a serious suitor if extension talks do not progress.
The Warriors reportedly were willing to offer four first-round picks in pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo and could potentially assemble a similar package for Davis.
Washington acquired Davis from the Mavericks at last season’s trade deadline in exchange for two first-round picks and three second-round selections.
Injuries limited him to just 20 games last season, during which he averaged 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game.
Davis will become eligible to officially sign his extension with the Wizards on August 6.
