Kevin Durant may be on the move again, and three teams have emerged as frontrunners ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, and Minnesota Timberwolves are currently in active discussions to acquire the 36-year-old forward. Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Charania said, “I think a Kevin Durant trade could happen in the next few days.”
Durant remains under contract with the Phoenix Suns through 2026, but league sources indicate the franchise is working closely with his camp to facilitate a trade. Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro reported on the “Burns & Gambo” show that a deal is likely to happen by next week, with a chance something could be finalized even sooner.
The Suns missed the playoffs this season after finishing 36–46 and 11th in the Western Conference. Their early offseason move to part ways with head coach Mike Budenholzer signaled a broader shift toward a potential rebuild.
Phoenix is aiming to complete a trade before the June 25 NBA Draft. Multiple teams have inquired about Durant’s availability, but the New York Knicks are reportedly not involved.
Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists across 75 games in 2024–25. Despite the Suns’ disappointing finish, his production remained consistent.
The Rockets, who finished second in the West with a 52–30 record, could be looking to add veteran leadership to a roster headlined by young talent. Miami, meanwhile, barely made the East play-in with a 37–45 record and is exploring major changes.
Minnesota, fresh off a 49-win season, is considered a team on the verge of serious title contention and could view Durant as the missing piece.
Toronto has also entered the mix. The Raptors possess significant draft capital and promising prospects such as Scottie Barnes and Gradey Dick, which could appeal to Phoenix’s front office.
San Antonio has been quietly monitoring the situation as well. Multiple outlets have reported that Durant has privately listed the Spurs as a team of interest.
