The Toronto Raptors have surfaced as a serious contender in the Kevin Durant trade sweepstakes, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

Stein wrote on his Substack that multiple league figures believe the Raptors could become a “potential trade suitor for Kevin Durant,” especially if Giannis Antetokounmpo is not made available this offseason.

Durant is expected to be traded by the Phoenix Suns, who are now working with the forward and his business manager, Rich Kleiman, to identify a destination ahead of the June 25 NBA Draft.

The Suns, who missed the postseason with a 36–46 record, are retooling after hiring Jordan Ott as head coach and parting ways with Mike Budenholzer.

Four and six teams are expected to make serious offers for the 14-time All-Star.

Toronto, which finished 11th in the East at 30–52, holds the necessary draft capital and young talent to construct a competitive offer, especially compared to franchises with limited flexibility.

Stein added that the Raptors would “figure to have a more realistic shot at assembling a competitive trade offer for Durant” than the type of massive package required for Antetokounmpo.

Durant, who averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists this past season, remains under contract.

Toronto’s trade leverage lies in its combination of flexible contracts, lottery picks, and rising players like Scottie Barnes and Gradey Dick, who could headline a package without gutting the roster.

With the NBA Draft approaching, teams are accelerating talks, and Toronto’s front office is reportedly evaluating its willingness to part with future assets for an aging superstar who turns 37 in September.
