Toronto Raptors made a strong push to acquire Jaren Jackson Jr. at the trade deadline before he was ultimately dealt by the Memphis Grizzlies to the Utah Jazz, according to Michael Grange.

Toronto was reportedly “working hard” to complete a deal, but Jakob Poeltl’s contract became a major obstacle, as teams were unwilling to absorb it without significant additional incentives.

Poeltl was dealing with a back issue around that time, though he later said the injury was no longer a concern after the All-Star break or during the playoffs.

Even so, his trade outlook may not improve much this offseason, as teams are still expected to be cautious about taking on a contract with at least $81 million in guaranteed money remaining.
