The Phoenix Suns plan to work with Kevin Durant and his longtime business partner, Rich Kleiman, on a trade that would send the All-Star forward to a new team this offseason.

Shams Charania of ESPN reported that the Suns are beginning their roster overhaul following the hiring of Jordan Ott as head coach, and Durant’s future is a central part of those discussions.

According to Charania, multiple teams—estimated between four to six—are expected to make serious offers for Durant, who remains under contract but is seeking long-term clarity.

Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro recently reported that Durant has shown “some interest” in joining the San Antonio Spurs, citing sources familiar with the situation.

Gambadoro reported that Durant views San Antonio’s young core—De’Aaron Fox, Victor Wembanyama, and rookie Stephon Castle—as an appealing foundation.

Phoenix finished 36–46, placing 11th in the Western Conference and failing to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2020, leading to internal changes including the firing of head coach Mike Budenholzer.

Brian Windhorst of ESPN said earlier this week that he is “98 percent sure” Durant will not return to the Suns next season, and that teams are weighing whether to treat him as a short-term acquisition or commit with an extension.

Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 62 games during the 2024–25 season, but the team’s lack of postseason success has triggered a shift in organizational strategy.

Gambadoro noted that a trade involving Durant is expected to occur before the 2025 NBA Draft, allowing Phoenix to receive draft capital in return.

He floated the possibility of Phoenix acquiring Devin Vassell and taking on Harrison Barnes’ contract as part of a broader trade package with San Antonio.

Durant, who turns 36 in September, has played for four teams and could soon be on the move again if Phoenix finalizes a trade before the June 26 NBA Draft.
