Greece will host the final stage of EuroBasket 2029, marking the first time in 30 years that the country will play a central role in the prestigious basketball competition.

The announcement was revealed by basketball journalist Yannis Psarakis, confirming that Greece will hold the final phase of the tournament, including one first-round group.

The official announcement is set to take place on May 22, 2025, during the FIBA European Council meeting in Riga, Latvia. The confirmation comes after a series of discussions at the FIBA World Congress in Bahrain on May 16-17, where Greece’s selection as the host for this major event was unveiled.

EuroBasket 2029 will be the 41st edition of the tournament, continuing the tradition of fierce competition between European basketball powerhouses. This will be the third time Greece hosts the final phase of the event, with the country previously welcoming the tournament in 1987 and 1995.

The tournament is poised to attract global attention, with some of Europe’s best teams vying for glory. The news is a significant boost for Greek basketball, as the national team currently ranks 13th in the FIBA Men’s World Rankings.

With the EuroBasket 2025 edition on the horizon, which will be hosted by Cyprus, Finland, Poland, and Latvia, Greece’s return as a host for the 2029 tournament is generating buzz.
