Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic put an end to speculation about his future ties to Texas during a recent appearance on “Sundae Conversation” with Caleb Pressley.
When asked if he could see himself living in Texas after his basketball career, Doncic immediately answered, “No,” without hesitation, according to Timothy Malcolm of the Houston Chronicle.
Pressley pressed further, suggesting Houston as a possible destination, but Doncic repeated a firm “No” each time, firmly distancing himself from any potential return to the Lone Star State.
The 26-year-old guard spent the first six and a half seasons of his NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks before being traded to the Lakers on February 2.
The blockbuster trade sent Doncic, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris to Los Angeles in exchange for Max Christie, Anthony Davis, and a 2029 first-round pick, with Jalen Hood-Schifino and second-round selections also involved.
The Mavericks, who initiated the trade, received widespread criticism for moving their franchise cornerstone, especially given Doncic’s standing as one of the league’s elite talents.
General manager Nico Harrison defended the decision, emphasizing a focus on defensive improvements as the foundation for building a championship contender.
Doncic later revealed that he was not informed about the trade before it was finalized, further souring his relationship with his former franchise.
Since joining the Lakers, Doncic has continued his high-level production, averaging 28.2 points, 7.5 assists, and 8.1 rebounds over 28 games with his new team during the 2024-25 season.
Meanwhile, Dallas struggled to find consistency, finishing 10th in the Western Conference standings and barely making the Play-In Tournament.
Doncic’s comments about Texas suggest a clean break from his past with the Mavericks, reinforcing that his future off the court will likely not involve a return to the state.
