EuroLeague shareholders continued advancing their own plans for the competition during the same meeting in which the clubs reportedly rejected the NBA’s initial proposal for cooperation.
The October 6 gathering in the Lake Como area focused heavily on EuroLeague’s future structure, including turning the current 10-year shareholder licenses into franchises and potentially adding more franchises.
The owners approved moving forward with the franchise transformation involving all 13 ECA shareholder clubs.
They also instructed the Board of Directors to continue reviewing binding offers received from professional clubs interested in becoming additional EuroLeague franchises.
A final recommendation regarding the expansion process is expected to be submitted to shareholders in the coming weeks.
Those decisions came as EuroLeague clubs reportedly turned down the NBA’s initial proposal, leaving EuroLeague to continue developing its existing franchise and expansion strategy while the future relationship between the two organizations remains unresolved.
