The New York Knicks moved within one win of advancing after edging the Detroit Pistons 94-93 in a gritty Game 4.

Following the final buzzer, Karl-Anthony Towns described the series’ physicality as a throwback to an earlier era of NBA basketball.

Speaking after the game, Towns told reporters, “I think it kind of gives a little bit of old school vibes,” adding that the battle between the two teams was good for young fans to see.

Towns emphasized the pride both sides are playing with, highlighting Detroit’s hunger in its first playoff appearance in several years.

“Playing Detroit, who hasn’t been in the playoffs, they got a lot of pride,” Towns said. “They’re fighting for their city, and we’re trying to fight for ours.”

The Knicks survived a tight finish after officials admitted a missed foul call on New York’s Josh Hart during the final play.

When asked about the no-call, Towns kept his response short, saying, “I don’t even know what to say to that.”

Jalen Brunson, who once again led New York with a composed late-game performance, credited the team’s resilience after Detroit surged ahead during the second half.

“We just found a way to stick together, stay poised, and find a way to win,” Brunson said postgame.

Despite battling through physical pain after a hard fall, Brunson returned to finish the game, later explaining his mindset.

“Moments like that, you got to take a breath, relax, and mentally get ready to go back in,” Brunson said. “There wasn’t a doubt.”

New York’s defensive effort also drew praise, particularly the chemistry between OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges in clutch situations.

“They’ve been great all year,” Brunson said. “It’s tough to guard people in this league, but when you have two guys like that who just go out there and play hard every possession, I like our chances.”

Head coach Tom Thibodeau also received credit from Brunson for his leadership and late-game trust in his players.

“He puts us in position where we’re prepared, we’re ready, and he lets us play,” Brunson said.

With the series shifting back to Madison Square Garden, the Knicks will have a chance to close out Detroit in front of their home crowd.

Towns, who delivered a key fourth-quarter step-back three-pointer, said he channeled inspiration from his teammate.

“I learned a lot from JB,” Towns said. “I’m just trying to do my best Jalen Brunson impression.”

Game 5 is scheduled for Wednesday, where New York will look to advance and continue its postseason run.
